Since becoming Music Director and Founder of Camerata Ireland in 1999, Barry Douglas is establishing a worldwide reputation as a conductor - uniting his talents as soloist and chamber musician with his passionate and imaginative approach to music making.

In 2008, Barry made his successful debut as player/director with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the Fields at the Mostly Mozart Festival, Barbican and will tour the UK and the Netherlands with them in 2010/11. He returns to the Belgrade Philharmonic this season having made his successful debut with them in 2008/09. Other recent debuts include Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Novosibirsk Chamber Orchestra and I Pommerigi di Milano. He returns each season to the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and is currently halfway through a Beethoven cycle.

Next season, Barry makes his debut at the Enescu Festival with the Romanian National Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and in 2011, with the St. Petersburg Orchestra.

With Camerata Ireland, Barry regularly tours Europe and the US with concerts each season in London, Dublin and Paris. Camerata remain the resident ensemble in the yearly Clandeboye Festival and at the Castletown Concerts, Ireland.

In 2007, Barry presented his first television series for RTE Ireland “Symphony Sessions” – a programme showing behind the scenes of orchestral life. Barry conducted and played with the RTE National Orchestra and returned in 2008 for another series in this role.
