Jacques Imbrailo Baritone

South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo completed a BA Law degree and a BMus degree at the Potchefstroom University in South Africa in 2002, followed by post-graduate opera studies at the RCM under Ryland Davies.

Jacques completed his studies with the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2008 and made his Royal Opera House debut in December 2006 as Morales in Bizet’s Carmen.

Opera repertoire includes Tarquinius/The Rape of Lucretia and Guglielmo/Cosí fan tutte (the later he sang for his U.S debut at Opera Colorado), Mercutio/Roméo et Juliette (British Youth Opera), Scythian/Iphigénie en Tauride, Demetrius/A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Morales/Carmen, all for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Oratorio performances include Bach’s St John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem and Durufle’s Requiem amongst others.

This season, Jacques will sing Guglielmo/Cosi fan tutte (Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Opera North), Schaunard/La Boheme (Royal Opera House) and the title role of Billy Budd in Michael Grandage’s new production at the Glyndebourne Festival. This is immediately followed by The Count in Le nozze de Figaro for the Royal Opera House.

Future engagements include a reprise of the role Billy Budd for De Nederlandse Opera, Malatesta/Don Pasquale at the Royal Opera House and the leading baritone role in Judith Weir’s new commission for the Royal Opera House. This production will later be seen at the Bregenzer Festspiele.
