Artist Website

In collaboration with their Musical Director, Emmanuel Krivine, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras in Europe. Created by Radio Luxembourg in 1933, it has been a pillar of excellence in the cultural life of Luxembourg and was appointed as the National Orchestra in 1966.

The Orchestra’s reputation has been further enhanced by international touring throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. In 2006/7, the orchestra toured Spain, Switzerland and France followed by visits to Italy and Austria in 2007/8. For the 2008/9 season, the Orchestra will give approximately twenty performances across several European countries, including performances at the Philharmonie in Berlin and the Salle Pleyel in Paris.

At the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Orchestra hosts their own subscription series incorporating a variety of performances which cater for both families and children. Internationally renowned conductors and soloists are regularly invited by the orchestra for concerts in Luxembourg and abroad. For example, in 2008/9, the Orchestra will host the talents of Lionel Bringuier, Aldo Ciccolini, Bernarda Fink, Julia Fischer, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Michael Gielen, Soile Isokoski, Janine Jansen, Sergey Khachatryan, Nicolai Lugansky, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Hugh Wolff and Tabea Zimmerman.

The Orchestra’s discography has garnered many accolades, winning prestigious international prizes such as 'Best Record of the Year' at the 'Cannes Classical Awards' (MIDEM) for the brilliant recording of Cydalise et le Chèvre-Pie' by Gabriel Pierné (conducted by the late music director David Shallon). The orchestra has also received an 'Orphée d'Or' by the 'Académie du Disque Lyrique' in Paris for the world premiere recording of the opera Polyphème by Jean Cras with Bramwell Tovey as conductor.
