In 2006 IMG Artists prepared a preliminary operational blueprint for Ministry of Culture and Communications through a consultation process with key stakeholders. The planned new concert hall is intended amongst other things to provide a home for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and serve as a new centre for musical excellence in the city's cultural hub, relieving the pressure of high demand for the existing facilities at the Place des Arts.
IMG Arts Projects was the international consultant for the establishment of the first ever professional summer music academy in China - The Canton International Summer Music Academy (CISMA), which ran for three years from 2005-2007. With professional musical development as the central objective, the Academy has provided talented students and young professional musicians both from within China and the wider Asian region with a unique opportunity to be coached by some of the most distinguished artists in the world.
Each year at CISMA, 200 students from across South East Asia received tuition from a distinguished faculty of soloists and orchestral musicians drawn from some of the world's finest orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Philadelphia Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Toscanini Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 the Endellion String Quartet were welcomed as the Resident String Quartet at CISMA, to further enhance the chamber music course.
In 2001 IMG Arts Projects consulted to the China Shanghai International Festival of Arts on their artistic programming and the development of their sponsorship programmes and packages. The month-long annual festival is now recognised as one of the leading festivals in China.
IMG Arts Projects was engaged by the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, India to enhance its programming, market reach and revenue streams.
The NCPA is a multi-venue, multi-disciplinary arts centre comprising two large scale theatres - one designed for Indian classical music and the other for Western classical music; an experimental theatre, dance theatre, cinema, art gallery and a centre for photography. Initially conceived to sustain the tradition of Indian music and dance through performance and archival recordings, the NCPA is now also host to a variety of musical and theatrical performances.
In 2001, IMG Arts Projects concluded a 5-year contract undertaken to establish – from concept to launch – Malaysia's first dedicated classical concert venue located in a spectacular position between the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur – the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS.
Working with some of the world's leading architects, acousticians and theatre management consultants, the team was able to deliver for PETRONAS (Malaysia's national petroleum company) a fully operational venue that has become known as one of Asia's best and most technically advanced. With detailed input from IMG Arts Projects at every level of operations, the concert hall was delivered with an end-user focus and therefore has proved to be a venue that artists and orchestras are keen to return to.
After the completion of the core five-year consulting contract in 2001, IMG Artists was re-engaged in its artistic consultant role for a further two seasons to support the hall's ongoing artistic development, helping to bring it to the high standards that the International Series, Jazz Series and World Music Series enjoy today.
IMG Arts Projects was the management and artistic consultant to the creation of Malaysia's first professional orchestra of international standing - the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).
The MPO was established in July 1998, performing its inaugural concert in August 1998 and in excess of 100 concerts in its opening season to rave reviews and full houses. Despite its recent creation, the MPO is already widely recognised as one of the Asia-Pacific region’s leading symphony orchestras. The Orchestra is made up of 105 musicians from more than 20 nations around the world.
IMG Arts Projects was responsible for the Orchestra's establishment and advised on marketing, management, contract planning, operations, education programmes, international touring and artistic planning. Orchestra website
In August 2001, IMG Arts Projects was engaged as sponsorship consultant to the Islamic Arts Museum, Malaysia.
The Islamic Arts Museum is the only museum of its kind in the world. Home to a showcase of impressive and rare Islamic artefacts, the museum was established to foster global understanding and appreciation of the arts, culture and lifestyles of Islamic civilisation and its place in the history of mankind.
IMG Arts Projects worked closely with the National Theatre of Malaysia (Istana Budaya) in preparation for the staging of musicals at the venue. Technical and production staff from the National Theatre were involved in work experience programmes during IMG Artists’ production of Miss Saigon in Singapore in 2001. In January 2002, IMG Artists arranged further work experience for members of staff during IMG Artists’ production of Singin' In The Rain in Brisbane, Australia. IMG Arts Projects also consulted to the theatre on various maintenance and upgrading works that needed to be undertaken, including remedial works on the theatre’s seating in order to maximise sightlines and comfort for theatregoers.
As part of our ongoing partnership with Artec, IMG Artists was commissioned in 2008 to produce a detailed programming template as the working basis for defining the spatial and operational requirements for a new concert hall in Mexico City. Planning for this project is remains ongoing.
IMG Artists completed the first development phase in association with Artec Consultants to establish a new state-of-the-art concert hall in Wroclaw, one of Poland’s most important centres for music. By defining the operational considerations and programming requirements and parameters, as well as initial business planning, for the facility, the team helped to develop the new facility's future operational and artistic policy. When it eventually opens, it is set not only to be the leading concert venue in Poland but also to join the ranks of Europe’s other leading concert halls.
IMG Arts Projects was engaged as business development consultant for Singapore's new arts centre, The Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. IMG Artists was engaged to develop sponsorship, naming rights, and affinity packages and programmes for The Esplanade, which opened in October 2002.
Esplanade Theatres on the Bay is situated along Singapore's magnificent waterfront at Marina Bay and offers a spectacular view of the financial district. The impressive venue is a leading arts centre in Asia, with its 2000-seat Theatre, a 1,800-seat Concert Hall, a 250-seat Recital Studio, a 250-seat Theatre Studio, a mall, outdoor performing spaces and ample support facilities for artists.
On 30 October 2008, Rock Productions Pte Ltd ("Rock") and CapitaLand Limited jointly hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new iconic and life-style development - the Integrated Civic, Cultural, Retail and Entertainment Hub. The new development spans over 62,000 square metres of gross floor area and is strategically located at a rapidly developing area in Singapore the one-north precinct. The development will comprise a Civic and Cultural Zone (CCZ) owned and managed by Rock and an impressive Retail and Entertainment Zone (RZ) owned and managed by CapitaLand Retail Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CapitaLand Limited.
The Civic and Cultural component of the development is envisaged to become the new dynamic art, cultural, meeting, convention and exhibition centre in Singapore. It will house a 5,000-seat state-of-the-art multi-purpose, amplified theatre and concert venue suitable for touring concert productions, family entertainment and large scale conferences as well as corporate and community events. In addition an impressive outdoor amphitheatre and additional support spaces will support a full range of cultural and civic events.
The iconic building has been superbly designed by prominent architect Andrew Brombery of Aedas Pte Ltd and Artec Consultants Inc. are the appointed theatre designers and acousticians.
IMG Artists is the management, marketing and programming consultant for the venue. The project is due for completion in 2012.
The Singapore Dance Theatre engaged IMG Arts Projects to conduct an audit on its marketing and sponsorship programmes, and to structure and sell sponsorship opportunities for the dance company.
The Singapore Dance Theatre is the premier professional dance company in Singapore. Its repertoire ranges from contemporary to full-length classical works by internationally renowned and local choreographers. Made up of dancers from Singapore and the Asia Pacific region, the Singapore Dance Theatre presents over 80 performances every year. Today the Singapore Dance Theatre is regarded as one of the leading arts groups in Singapore and is held in high esteem by the international dance community.
IMG Arts Projects completed a commission by the Erziehungsdepartement des Kantons Basel-Stadt to review the operating environment and prospects for the future redevelopment of the Stiftung Basler Orchester. The principal objective was to present the Erziehungsdepartement with a set of recommendations on how to manage necessary cuts in subsidy being introduced by the city from 2006 onwards, while at the same time helping to improve the company’s ability to operate and thrive through diversification of their funding sources and to introduce improvements in their organisational structures and operations.
Working alongside Artec, IMG Artists was engaged to produce a detailed programming template through extensive consultation with a wide range of prospective user groups and stakeholders. The outcome of this will serve as the basis for the planned redevelopment of the historic Mstistenkiy Arsenal as a Center for Ukrainian Music, providing a home for many of the city's leading ensembles.
IMG Artists has been retained as the exclusive Artistic Advisor and Planner to the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park in Boca Raton, Florida to develop a cultural festival, with the inaugural edition taking place March 1-11, 2007. IMG Artists is working with Mizner Park to determine an artistic design consistent with Mizner Park's objectives; create marketing and audience development policies and strategies; developer corporate funding and sponsorship; and implement operational plans necessary to the success of the Festival.
IMG Artists cooperated with the Library of Congress in Washington to produce the "Song of America" Tour with baritone Thomas Hampson. This historic tour presented the eminent American singer in 11 cities across the United States, in a program highlighting the Library of Congress's unparalleled music collection. The tour was accompanied by a travelling exhibit of rare and precious manuscripts from the Library and featured extensive educational outreach in each city.
IMG Artists has been retained by the Van Cliburn Foundation as the international consultants to the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, held every four years in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to raising the profile of the competition throughout Europe and Asia, IMG Artists offers a three-year worldwide management contract (excluding the US) as part of the prize package for the competition winner. IMG Artists is currently managing Russia's Alexander Kobrin, winner of the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
