Violinist Susie Park Joins Eroica Trio

06 October 2006

New York City, NY – This week, the Eroica Trio announced that violinist Susie Park will permanently replace Adela Peña, who left the group due to a fatigue-related injury to her hand.  Hailed as “prodigiously talented” by The Washington Post, Park is widely known for her emotive range and dynamic stage presence. On joining the Trio she said, "Joining the Eroica Trio is my dream come true. There is incredible magic and electric chemistry among us and I feel so lucky to be making music with two such passionate and dynamic artists!"

A native of Sydney, Australia, Park began playing theviolin at age three and made her solo recital debut at age five.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied under the tutelage of renowned violinists Jaime Laredo and Ida  Kavafian, and with Donald Weilerstein in  the Artist Diploma program at the New England Conservatory.  Park has appeared as soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of theSouth Bay in California, all of the major Australianorchestras including those of Sydney, Melbourne,  Adelaide, Tasmania, West Australia and Canberra,Korea’s KBS orchestra, the Lille National Orchestra under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin in France and theWellington Sinfonia, New Zealand.

One of the most sought-after trios in the world, the Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio thrills audiences with their flawless technical virtuosity, irresistible enthusiasm and sensual elegance.  Whether playing the great standards of the piano trio repertoire or daring contemporary works, this celebrated ensemble electrifies the concert stage with their performances of depth and precision.  In 1991, the Trio won the prestigious Naumburg Award, resulting in a highly successful Lincoln Center debut and has since toured the United States, Europe and Asia.  While maintaining their demanding concert schedule, the Eroica has released seven critically-lauded recordings for Angel/EMI Classics Records, garnering multiple Grammy nominations.

Welcoming Park to the group, pianist Erika Nickrenz commented, "After playing just a few phrases of Brahms with Susie, I knew that we had found our musical soul mate. Susie plays with incredible depth and maturity; her blazing technique allows her to express anything she chooses to do musically. I think the fact that we have so many personal and musical connections is one of the reasons behind the chemistry I feel when we make music.” Indeed, Nickrenz, Park and Sant’Ambrogio’s paths have crossed at many artistic junctions.  Park and Sant’Ambrogio both attended the Curtis Institute of Music, and all three women performed at The Marlboro Music Festival. Jaime Laredo, a teacher and mentor of Park’s, discovered Sant’Ambrogio and presented the Eroica Trio’s New York debut.  Many years ago, Park’s teacher Donald Weilerstein formed a piano quintet with Nickrenz’s mother (pianist Joanna Nickrenz) and father (violinist Scott Nickrenz) called the New Chamber Quintet.

This season, the Trio tours once again across the United States and plans to record their eighth CD for EMI, an all-American album. Cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio said of Park, “It is so incredible to find love twice in one’s life, from the moment we played with Susie we knew we had found our dream violinist!”
